No. 1080 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-3 recognize the attendees and convention delegates of the 42nd 1-4 Biennial National Convention of the Chinese American Citizens 1-5 Alliance; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The convention is being hosted by the 1-7 organization's Houston Chapter and takes place in Houston, 1-8 August 10 through 14, 1993; approximately 180 attendees will 1-9 arrive from across the United States; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Topics for this year include the organization's 1-11 agenda for the second hundred years, cultural diversity, political 1-12 empowerment, hate crimes, and Asian appointments in government; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The country's oldest national Asian American civil 1-14 rights organization, the Chinese American Citizens Alliance was 1-15 founded in 1895 in San Francisco by a small group of patriotic 1-16 Chinese Americans; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The organization was created to insure the legal rights 1-18 of its members and to promote the general welfare and happiness of 1-19 Chinese communities; and 1-20 WHEREAS, The Chinese American Citizens Alliance promotes the 1-21 educational opportunities of Chinese American youths and is in the 1-22 forefront of advancing the causes of justice and equality for 1-23 Chinese Americans; and 2-1 WHEREAS, It has established programs and activities 2-2 nationwide to bring Chinese Americans into the American mainstream 2-3 and is working to further racial understanding, harmony, and 2-4 brotherhood; and 2-5 WHEREAS, This exceptional and distinguished 2-6 organization deserves praise for its many accomplishments 2-7 and for its effectiveness as a social and political voice for Chinese 2-8 Americans; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 73rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the Chinese American 2-11 Citizens Alliance and extend a warm welcome to its members and 2-12 delegates on the grand occasion of its 42nd Biennial National 2-13 Convention; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-15 members of the alliance as a token of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-16 _____________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the 2-19 above Resolution was adopted by 2-20 the Senate on May 27, 1993. 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 _____________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
