No. 1083 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, In these days of environmental awareness, it 1-3 behooves all of us to encourage young people to protect the 1-4 environment; the values developed will affect how they care 1-5 for our fragile planet in the future; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate wants to inspire all students 1-7 to take an active role in projects that address environmental 1-8 concerns; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A contest entitled Environmental Challenge sponsored 1-10 by both H.E.B. and the Texas General Land Office encourages school 1-11 classes to compete in three different divisions: kindergarten 1-12 through fifth grade, sixth through eighth grade, and ninth through 1-13 12th grade; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Environmental school projects can be in any of the 1-15 following areas or topics of concern: water, energy, toxic/hazardous 1-16 waste, solid waste/recycling, global warming/tree planting, and any 1-17 other relevant environmental or natural science topic; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to 1-19 recognize the students of Austin Middle School of Beaumont who 1-20 have won first place in the middle school division of the 1-21 H.E.B./General Land Office Environmental Challenge; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Resourceful and enthusiastic students can help 1-23 promote the quality of their environment and at the same time 2-1 learn what a difference they can make; and 2-2 WHEREAS, These outstanding students and their teacher 2-3 Lynn Buchwald and Dr. Tela Urbina created solutions to saving 2-4 our wetlands and formed Sea-Cology, to increase public awareness 2-5 of the problem; and 2-6 WHEREAS, It is a highly commendable goal to get students 2-7 actively interested in the welfare of their community and their 2-8 state; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 73rd Legislature, hereby honor the teachers and students of 2-11 Austin Middle School of Beaumont for winning first place in 2-12 the middle school division; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-14 students and teachers of Austin Middle School as a memento of this 2-15 achievement and as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-16 _____________________________________ 2-17 President of the Senate 2-18 I hereby certify that the 2-19 above Resolution was adopted by 2-20 the Senate on May 27, 1993. 2-21 _____________________________________ 2-22 Secretary of the Senate 2-23 _____________________________________ 2-24 Member, Texas Senate
