    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Beth Stubblefield
    1-5                      Horace G. Stubblefield, Jr.
    1-6        WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow that the Texas Senate noted
    1-7  the passing of Horace G. Stubblefield, Jr., and his wife, Beth,
    1-8  who died May 15, 1993; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Well-known civic leaders, the esteemed couple had
   1-10  made their home in Diboll, Texas, for many years and were known
   1-11  throughout the area for their important contributions to their
   1-12  community; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Stubblefield tragically lost
   1-14  their lives in an auto-train crash at a railroad crossing on
   1-15  County Road 22 near their home; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Mr. Stubblefield was born on May 21, 1925, in
   1-17  Lufkin, Texas, and attended The University of Texas; he served
   1-18  his country with valor as a pilot in the Army Air Corps during
   1-19  World War II; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, He was a retired corporate Vice-President
   1-21  of Temple Inland; as a former president of Sabine Investment
   1-22  Company, a division of Temple Inland, he supervised the creation
   1-23  of Crown Colony Country Club and the development of Crown Colony
    2-1  subdivisions; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Expending his time and abilities to benefit
    2-3  all the residents of Diboll, Mr. Stubblefield led the effort to
    2-4  eradicate substandard housing by bringing public housing to the
    2-5  city; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Thirty-three years ago he founded Deep East Texas
    2-7  Development Association and was a former director of First Bank
    2-8  and Trust of Diboll; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, More than anyone else, the outstanding individual
   2-10  was responsible for the development of Diboll; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Mrs. Stubblefield was born on December 24, 1928,
   2-12  in Huntington, Texas, and graduated from Baylor University; she
   2-13  began her teaching career in Lufkin in 1949 and taught elementary
   2-14  grades over 40 years in the Diboll School District; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, At the time of her death, she was teaching science
   2-16  at Diboll Junior High School; dedicated to her students and to her
   2-17  profession, Mrs. Stubblefield loved working with underprivileged
   2-18  children; she was also deeply involved in civic activities; and
   2-19        WHEREAS, Responsible for molding the lives of countless
   2-20  students, Mrs. Stubblefield was one of the most highly respected
   2-21  teachers throughout the district; and
   2-22        WHEREAS, Horace and Beth Stubblefield leave behind a legacy
   2-23  of compassion and commitment that will be remembered and cherished
   2-24  by all those who knew and loved them; now, therefore, be it
   2-25        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    3-1  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family
    3-2  of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Stubblefield:  their son and daughter-in-law,
    3-3  Gandy and Lisa Stubblefield; their daughter, Suzanne Stubblefield;
    3-4  and their grandson, Horace Gandy Stubblefield IV; and, be it further
    3-5        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
    3-6  members of their family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
    3-7  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
    3-8  so in memory of Horace and Beth Stubblefield.
