    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Oscar Johnson, Jr.
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  family and many friends of Oscar Johnson, Jr., in mourning the death
    1-7  of this Conroe civic leader who died May 1, 1993; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born in Willis on September 30, 1940, Mr. Johnson
    1-9  moved to Conroe in the early 1960s; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, This respected gentleman operated Collins and
   1-11  Johnson Funeral Home and was a member the National Funeral Directors
   1-12  and Morticians Association; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, A renowned and respected civic leader,
   1-14  Mr. Johnson was a member of the boards of directors of the
   1-15  Salvation Army and the Metropolitan Day Care Center; he was a member
   1-16  of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People,
   1-17  National Coalition of Black Democrats, Montgomery County Civic Group,
   1-18  and the Concerned Citizens of Conroe; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Johnson was a deacon of
   1-20  Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, a member of Christian Home Workers,
   1-21  and the Masonic Lodge; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, An extraordinarily capable gentleman, Mr. Johnson
   1-23  had served a lengthy term on city council; in addition, he was a
    2-1  past president of Epsilon Nu Delta fraternity and a member of the
    2-2  Conroe Friendly City Kiwanis Club; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, His wise counsel and good judgment will be
    2-4  remembered with gratitude by all those who knew him; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, The varied and notable achievements of this
    2-6  venerated community leader greatly contributed to the development
    2-7  and progress of his town; he will be greatly missed; now, therefore,
    2-8  be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to
   2-11  the members of his family:  his wife, Ruby; his daughters,
   2-12  Dolly and Monique; his son, Marquis Demond; his mother,
   2-13  Lizzie Lee Johnson; his seven grandchildren; and his special
   2-14  adopted parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Webster; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
   2-17  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
   2-18  it does so in memory of Oscar Johnson, Jr.
