    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize the Movin' Mavs, the wheelchair basketball team from
    1-4  The University of Texas at Arlington, for winning their third
    1-5  consecutive national championship; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, In a dream come true for many players on the team,
    1-7  they were invited to visit the White House and President Clinton
    1-8  on May 13, 1993; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, In capturing the national championship,
   1-10  Jesus Alamillo, Willie Hernandez, Robby Holcomb, Brad Michael,
   1-11  Chhay Mak, Pho Tran, Dennis Harrison, Jason Van Beek, and
   1-12  Cipi Falcon displayed exemplary confidence and poise; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, This hardworking basketball squad affirmed its
   1-14  dominance over other collegiate squads by beating Illinois to
   1-15  claim its championship at the Final Four Tournament in
   1-16  Champaign, Illinois, on February 28, 1993; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Wheelchair basketball is not a National Collegiate
   1-18  Athletic Association-sponsored sport; seven other universities,
   1-19  Illinois, Temple, Southern Illinois, Wright State in Ohio,
   1-20  Southwest State in Minnesota, and Wisconsin Whitewater are the
   1-21  only universities that regularly compete on a collegiate level;
   1-22  The University of Texas at Arlington now offers six full
   1-23  scholarships in wheelchair basketball; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Exhibiting perseverance, team unity, and respect
    2-2  for the highest ideals in American sportsmanship, team members have
    2-3  brought honor to themselves and their team; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Their highly successful year is a tribute to
    2-5  the men's exceptional talent and the loyal enthusiasm that
    2-6  Coach Jim Hayes, Assistant Coach Chee Ho, Manager Lee Castillo,
    2-7  and Trainer Juan Pulido have consistently displayed; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, The team devoted time and energy to practicing the
    2-9  fundamental skills of the game and exercised individual discipline
   2-10  which was apparent in their impressive performances this season;
   2-11  now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  73rd Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of the
   2-14  Movin' Mavs of The University of Texas at Arlington and
   2-15  extend best wishes to them in the years ahead; and, be it
   2-16  further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be prepared
   2-18  for them as an expression of the high regard and esteem of the
   2-19  Texas Senate.
