    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  recognizing Mrs. Marie Wehby on the joyous occasion of her
    1-4  100th birthday, which took place April 4, 1993; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born in Lebanon in 1893, Mrs. Wehby was brought to
    1-6  the United States by her parents when she was six months old; the
    1-7  family moved to Krebs, Oklahoma, where she spent her early
    1-8  childhood years; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Later, the family relocated to Seguin, Texas, where
   1-10  Mrs. Wehby developed her interest in cooking; she won first place
   1-11  for her cakes at the Seguin Fair when she was only 12 years old; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, In 1917, she married Raphael Wehby, a Lebanese
   1-13  gentleman who had a drygoods business, and the couple moved from
   1-14  Seguin to Taylor and managed a drygoods store from 1923 to 1948; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The couple bought the corner lot on which
   1-16  Mrs. Wehby's house still stands; the home was built in 1938; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Talented and energetic throughout her life,
   1-18  Mrs. Wehby was a seamstress for many years until 1985 when she
   1-19  retired from sewing; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Still an active woman today, however, Mrs. Wehby
   1-21  continues to cook for her two living children, Ann and John, and
   1-22  is chaplain of the American Legion Auxiliary; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, As matriarch of the Wehby family, she is a positive
    2-1  role model and she takes pleasure in the companionship of her
    2-2  family and friends; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Mrs. Wehby is a quick learner, has nearly a
    2-4  photographic memory, is an active member of Saint Mary's Catholic
    2-5  Church, and still votes at election time; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A beloved member of the Taylor community, Mrs. Wehby
    2-7  is an honest, generous, and exemplary woman who lives her life to
    2-8  the fullest; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  73rd Legislature, hereby recognize Mrs. Marie Wehby as a treasured
   2-11  citizen of Taylor, Texas, and wish her continued health and
   2-12  happiness; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-14  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
