    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                 Lieutenant Colonel James Asa Skinner
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
    1-6  citizens of Harker Heights in mourning the loss of
    1-7  Lieutenant Colonel James Asa Skinner who died May 24, 1993,
    1-8  at the age of 67; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A respected and beloved teacher and member of his
   1-10  community, James Skinner will be remembered for his dedication
   1-11  to his family, his friends, and his country; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Born in Mayesville, South Carolina,
   1-13  Lieutenant Colonel Skinner had lived in the city since 1967 where
   1-14  he taught Texas history and world geography at Manor Middle School
   1-15  and Eastern Hills Middle School; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Skinner was a member of the
   1-17  United States military for 23 years and retired from active duty
   1-18  with the Fort Hood 82nd Airborne Corps, Special Warfare and Test
   1-19  Headquarters, and III Corps Test Headquarters in 1970; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, During World War II, the young navy man served
   1-21  with valor aboard the USS Johnnie Hutchins which sank the
   1-22  last Japanese submarine during the war; he continued to serve
   1-23  his country during the Vietnam and Korean wars; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, For his meritorious contributions,
    2-2  Lieutenant Colonel Skinner was awarded many commendations
    2-3  including the National Defense Medal with one oak leaf cluster,
    2-4  the Korean Service Medal, the Air Medal Master Parachutist Badge,
    2-5  Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and the
    2-6  Bronze Star Medal; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, A devout Christian gentleman who contributed to
    2-8  the betterment of his community, Lieutenant Colonel Skinner was a
    2-9  member of the Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite of Waco; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, He leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment
   2-11  that will remain cherished by those who lived and worked with him;
   2-12  now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-14  73rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
   2-15  of his family:  his wife, Maxine; his sons, James O. Skinner and
   2-16  Willie Richard Skinner; his daughter, Lisa Roth; his brothers,
   2-17  Raymond Skinner, Jr., Roy Skinner, and Bennie Skinner; his sister,
   2-18  Connie Mathis; and his three grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-20  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-21  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
   2-22  so in memory of Lieutenant Colonel James Asa Skinner.
