    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                          Hubert J. Schnelle
    1-5        WHEREAS, The death of Hubert J. Schnelle on May 14, 1993,
    1-6  represented a great personal loss to his loved ones and many friends
    1-7  across the State of Texas; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born on January 22, 1920, to Annie and
    1-9  Richard J. Schnelle in the Shovel Mountain Community, he was a
   1-10  lifelong resident of Marble Falls and attended Marble Falls public
   1-11  schools; he graduated from Southwest Texas State University where
   1-12  he was the first student to earn a graduate degree in agriculture;
   1-13  and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Courageous and patriotic, Mr. Schnelle served
   1-15  his country honorably in the United States Army Air Corps during
   1-16  World War II; since he spoke German fluently, he served as an
   1-17  interpreter; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, In 1948, he began his career as a banker with
   1-19  Home State Bank of Marble Falls; the bank had less than $1 million
   1-20  on deposit at that time; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from the presidency of the
   1-22  bank in 1984, the deposits in what is now First Interstate Bank
   1-23  were over $156 million; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, This distinguished gentleman's varied and notable
    2-2  achievements contributed greatly to the welfare and progress of
    2-3  Marble Falls; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, His impact on his community was far-reaching; many
    2-5  residents of ranches as well as small business owners give credit to
    2-6  Mr. Schnelle for enabling them to remain on their property or own
    2-7  their own businesses; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, A man of high principles and integrity,
    2-9  Mr. Schnelle's wise counsel and good judgment will be greatly
   2-10  missed and remembered with gratitude by those whose lives he touched;
   2-11  and
   2-12        WHEREAS, Mr. Schnelle was a respected and vital man in his
   2-13  community and his passing is mourned by all who knew him; now,
   2-14  therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  73rd Legislature, hereby extend heartfelt condolences to
   2-17  the members of his family:  his wife, Janie; his son, Eric; his
   2-18  daughter, Lisa Schnelle Titus; his sister, Margarite Linder; and
   2-19  his two grandchildren; and, be it further
   2-20        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-21  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-22  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
   2-23  in memory of Hubert J. Schnelle.
