No. 1176 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The people of Central Texas are known for their 1-3 longevity and such a person is Mrs. Ilah Martha Wright who will 1-4 celebrate her 100th birthday on July 28, 1993; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-6 congratulate Mrs. Wright, known as Mama Wright to almost every one 1-7 in Taylor, Texas, on the illustrious occasion of her 100th birthday; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mama Wright is justifiably proud of being one of the 1-10 two oldest living graduates of Huston Tillotson College; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mama Wright is the daughter of former slaves and the 1-12 mother of seven children; she was instrumental in getting the first 1-13 African American doctor, the late Dr. J. L. Dickey, to come to 1-14 Taylor to practice medicine; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Still an active and vital member of her community, 1-16 Mama Wright is known for her exemplary enthusiasm for living each 1-17 day to the fullest; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Friends and relatives of this beloved centenarian 1-19 will gather in Taylor, Texas, on July 31, 1993, to hold a day-long 1-20 celebration honoring Mama Wright; the festivities will be held at 1-21 the American Legion Hall in the Taylor City Park; now, therefore, 1-22 be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 73rd Legislature, hereby declare Mrs. Ilah Martha Wright a treasured 2-2 citizen of her town and state, wishing her many more years of health 2-3 and happiness; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-5 Mrs. Ilah Martha Wright as an expression of admiration and esteem 2-6 from the Texas Senate. 2-7 _____________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the 2-10 above Resolution was adopted by 2-11 the Senate on May 30, 1993. 2-12 _____________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 _____________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
