    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                         Arnaldo Ramirez, Sr.
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins with the
    1-6  family and many friends of Arnaldo Ramirez, Sr., in mourning his
    1-7  death on May 11, 1993; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Former mayor of Mission, Arnaldo Ramirez was a man
    1-9  with diversified interests; he was active in the music business and
   1-10  was former host of "Fanfarria Falcon" and "Super Fanfarria"; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, This outstanding Texas citizen was active
   1-12  in politics and business in the Rio Grande Valley and served
   1-13  Governor Bill Clements as a friend, interpreter, and unofficial
   1-14  ambassador to Mexico; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, One of the pioneers of Tejano music and a music
   1-16  promoter, Mr. Ramirez was perhaps best known as Mr. Falcon, the
   1-17  founder of ARV/Falcon Records in McAllen; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The son of a farmer and a mother who stressed
   1-19  education, Mr. Ramirez was born in 1918 and lived his entire
   1-20  lifetime in the neighborhood in which he was born; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, He began his music career at KGBS, a 250-watt
   1-22  Spanish-language radio station in what is now Harlingen and
   1-23  San Benito; in 1949, he brought Luis "El Gallo Jiro" Aguilar to
    2-1  the Valley for the first time, thereby establishing himself as a
    2-2  promoter; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, In 1949, Mr. Ramirez started Falcon Records in the
    2-4  living room of his home; his early recordings helped launch the
    2-5  careers of many new Tejano artists; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A man whose life and career made significant
    2-7  contributions to his town and state, Mr. Ramirez served on the
    2-8  Texas Good Neighbor Commission for 12 years, earning the respect
    2-9  of all who worked with him; designated a special assistant to
   2-10  the commission in 1976, he was appointed to a six-year term by
   2-11  Governor Dolph Briscoe two years later; elected chairman in 1979,
   2-12  he was reelected to a second term in 1980; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, The notable achievements of Arnaldo Ramirez will
   2-14  continue to contribute to the development of the Rio Grande Valley
   2-15  in a positive way; now, therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-17  73rd Legislature, hereby honor the memory of Arnaldo Ramirez, Sr.,
   2-18  and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:  his
   2-19  wife, Cristina; his daughters, Sandra Borjon, Ana Sylvia Reeve,
   2-20  Elizabeth Patterson, and Patricia Villarreal; his sons,
   2-21  Arnaldo Ramirez, Jr., and Marco Antonio Ramirez; his brothers,
   2-22  Oswaldo Ramirez and Jesus Maria Ramirez; and his 16 grandchildren;
   2-23  and, be it further
   2-24        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-25  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
    3-1  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so
    3-2  in memory of Arnaldo Ramirez, Sr.
