No. 1197 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission 1-3 has voted to add the Air Logistics Center at Kelly Air Force Base 1-4 to a list of bases that potentially could be closed; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Strategically located in San Antonio and one of 1-6 five major Air Force industrial centers that comprise a worldwide 1-7 logistics network in Air Force Materiel Command responsible for 1-8 acquisition, supply, maintenance, and distribution, this 1-9 exceptional installation has proven its worth as a military asset 1-10 and has become a vital component of the local and regional economy; 1-11 and 1-12 WHEREAS, Kelly Air Force Base employs more than 14,000 1-13 civilians and has an impact of $1 billion on the local economy; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The loss of the facility not only would leave a 1-15 serious gap in the national defense but also would cause the many 1-16 civilian employees of the installation the loss of their jobs, a 1-17 devastating result San Antonio and our country can ill afford at 1-18 any time, but especially during these times of economic 1-19 uncertainty; now, therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-21 73rd Legislature, hereby strongly urge the Defense Base Realignment 1-22 and Closure Commission not to recommend closure of the Air Logistics 1-23 Center at Kelly Air Force Base; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-2 the committee as a formal expression of the sentiment of the 2-3 Texas Senate. 2-4 _____________________________________ 2-5 President of the Senate 2-6 I hereby certify that the 2-7 above Resolution was adopted by 2-8 the Senate on May 31, 1993. 2-9 _____________________________________ 2-10 Secretary of the Senate 2-11 _____________________________________ 2-12 Member, Texas Senate
