    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  recognizing J. M. "Butch" Barbosa, a treasured citizen of
    1-4  Brownsville, Texas; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, An outstanding leader in the community,
    1-6  Butch Barbosa served as the Brownsville City Commissioner,
    1-7  Place 1, from November, 1989, to May, 1992, and as Mayor Pro Tem
    1-8  from January, 1992, to May, 1992; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A native and lifelong resident of Brownsville,
   1-10  he was the son of Juan Barbosa and Alicia G. Barbosa; he married
   1-11  Adelina "Nina" Delgado Barbosa, a pharmacist at Su Clinica-Familiar,
   1-12  and is the father of Diana Michele, a student at Pace High School;
   1-13  and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Butch Barbosa was an employee of the United States
   1-15  District Clerk's Office for over 20 years as Deputy-in-Charge of
   1-16  the Brownsville Division; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, He has been active throughout his life in numerous
   1-18  volunteer and church organizations as well as civic programs; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, He is an active member of Saint Luke's
   1-20  Catholic Church and has served as a Eucharistic Minister, a
   1-21  Confraternity of Christian Doctrine youth instructor, and a
   1-22  pre-cana team participant; he is also a member of Saint Vincent
   1-23  De Paul Society and Knights of Columbus, in which he has served as
    2-1  Grand Knight, Council and Community Director, and Treasurer; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Exceptionally dedicated and resourceful, Mr. Barbosa
    2-3  is a generous and hardworking individual whose concern for others
    2-4  is legendary; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A wise and exemplary gentleman, a respected
    2-6  humanitarian, and a man of many talents, Mr. Barbosa has made
    2-7  countless contributions to his community and to the State of Texas;
    2-8  now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  73rd Legislature, hereby express appreciation to Butch Barbosa
   2-11  for his numerous achievements and for the time and energy he
   2-12  has graciously devoted to the community of Brownsville; and,
   2-13  be it further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-15  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
