    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Mary Thorpe recently received the 1993
    1-3  Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Award for her teaching
    1-4  excellence, and the Texas Senate is pleased to congratulate
    1-5  her on her significant accomplishment; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Professor of geology and coordinator of the honors
    1-7  program at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Mary Thorpe has
    1-8  taught at the college for 26 years; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Award honors
   1-10  teachers who make a special impression on their students and
   1-11  community; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, For Mary Thorpe receiving the coveted award was
   1-13  a dream come true and had long been a goal she set for herself;
   1-14  she is the seventh Del Mar teacher to receive the honor; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, An inspiring and gifted educator, Mary Thorpe
   1-16  has captured the imagination and attention of her classes
   1-17  through her ability to motivate her students as well as her
   1-18  proficiency in her field; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Focusing on local geology, she is able to make
   1-20  information relevant to her students and through her expertise
   1-21  has earned the admiration of both students and colleagues; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Through the years Mary Thorpe has dedicated her
   1-23  professional life to enlightening her collegians to the magnificent
    2-1  structure of the world in which they live; now, therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-3  73rd Legislature, hereby commend and congratulate Mary Thorpe on
    2-4  receiving the 1993 Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Award and extend
    2-5  best wishes to her in her future endeavors; and, be it further
    2-6        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-7  the distinguished professor as an expression of the high regard
    2-8  of the Texas Senate.
