BILL ANALYSIS H.B. 767 By: Craddick (Bivins) Jurisprudence 4-27-95 Senate Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND The terms of court for district courts in the 238th, 318th, and 385th Judicial Districts, all of which are composed of Midland County, commence on the first Monday in January and July of each year. The terms of court for the 142nd Judicial District, also composed of Midland County, begins on the first Monday in March and September of each year. PURPOSE As proposed, H.B. 767 provides that the terms of court for the 142nd District Court begin on the first Mondays in January and March of each year. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 24.243(b), Government Code, to provide that the terms of the 142nd District Court begin on the first Mondays in January, rather than March, and July, rather than September, of each year. SECTION 2. Effective date: January 1, 1996. SECTION 3. Emergency clause.
