BACKGROUND

The terms of court for district courts in the 238th, 318th, and
385th Judicial Districts, all of which are composed of Midland
County, commence on the first Monday in January and July of each
year. The terms of court for the 142nd Judicial District, also
composed of Midland County, begins on the first Monday in March and
September of each year.

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.B. 767 provides that the terms of court for the
142nd District Court begin on the first Mondays in January and
March of each year.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not grant any
additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or
agency.
