BACKGROUND

Prosecutors who are placed under the Professional Prosecutors Act
may not engage in the private practice of law. In exchange, these
prosecutors are entitled to compensation from the state equal to
that paid to a district judge.

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.B. 1523 applies the Professional Prosecutors Act to
the district attorney for the 156th Judicial District.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not grant any
additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or
agency.
