BILL ANALYSIS H.B. 1527 By: Uher March 14, 1995 Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND For many years speaker's day has been an occasion to honor former members of the House of Representatives for their service to the state. PURPOSE H.B. 1527 changes the name of the speaker's day ceremony and limits the amount each contributor may contribute. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency or institution. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 303.001(2), Government Code, to changes the name of speaker's day ceremony to speaker's reunion day ceremony. SECTION 2. Amends Section 303.002(a), Government Code, to make a conforming change. SECTION 3. Amends Section 303.003, Government Code, to limit the amount each contributor may contribute to $100. SECTION 4. Amends Section 303.004, Government Code, to make a conforming change. SECTION 5. Amends Section 303.005(a), to make a conforming change. SECTION 6. Effective date: upon passage. Emergency clause. SUMMARY OF COMMITTEE ACTION Pursuant to public notice posted on March 1, 1995, the Committee on State Affairs convened in a public hearing on March 6, 1995 to consider HB 1527. The Chair laid out HB 1527 and recognized Rep. Uher to explain the bill. Rep. Jones moved that HB 1527 be reported favorably without amendment which prevailed by a record vote of 13 ayes, 0 nays, 0 pnv, 2 absent.
