                                                          5-23-95
                                Senate Committee Report (Amended)
BACKGROUND

Currently, law enforcement officials must orally notify the
superintendent or a representative of the superintendent within 24
hours after a crime has been committed by a student. The
superintendent, however, is not required to notify teachers or
support staff of the student's criminal activity.

PURPOSE

As proposed, H.B. 1687 requires superintendents to inform
instructional and support personnel of students who have committed
crimes with whom they have regular contact.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not grant any
additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or
agency.
