BILL ANALYSIS H.B. 2020 By: Swinford 03-27-95 Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND Currently, there is a discrepancy concerning the salary of a county court judge and the salary of a district judge in Potter County. The language in Gov. Code Section 25.1902 (h) (Vernon Supp. 1995) could be interpreted so that the county court judge is eligible to receive a higher salary than the district judge, which differs from the rest of the state. PURPOSE As proposed, HB 2020 repeals the language in Gov. Code Section 25.1902 (h) (Vernon Supp. 1995) so that the language in the statutes applying to Potter County is consistent with Gov. Code Section 25.005(a) (Vernon Supp. 1995) that states the salary of the county court judge is $1000 less than the salary of the district judge. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, department, agency or institution.
