BILL ANALYSIS H.B. 2020 By: Swinford (Bivins) Jurisprudence 5-10-95 Senate Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND There is a discrepancy concerning the salary of a county court judge and the salary of a district judge in Potter County. The language in Section 25.1902(h), Government Code, may be interpreted so that the county court judge is eligible to receive a higher salary than the district judge, which would differ from the rest of the state. PURPOSE As proposed, H.B. 2020 repeals the provision authorizing a judge of a county court at law to be paid an annual salary that is at least equal to the amount that is $1,000 less than the salary paid the district judge in the county. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Repealer: Section 25.1902(h), Government Code (relating to the salary of a Potter County court at law judge). SECTION 2. Emergency clause. Effective date: upon passage.
