C.S.H.B. 2998

Committee Report (Substituted)

BACKGROUND

The Kaufman County Juvenile Board currently consists of the county
judge, the district judges in Kaufman County, and the criminal
district attorney. Each member of the board lends specific
knowledge, expertise, and familiarity with juvenile issues to the
juvenile board.

In the past, the county judge was the primary judge for juvenile
cases; however, the county judge no longer hears juvenile cases.
Therefore, to better serve the citizens of Kaufman County, it is
important to include the County Court at Law for the Kaufman County
Judge, the primary judge for juvenile cases, on the Kaufman County
Juvenile Board.

PURPOSE

CSHB 2998 requires the Kaufman County Juvenile Board to be composed
of the county judge, the judge of the County Court at Law of
Kaufman County, the district judges in Kaufman County, and the
criminal district attorney.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not expressly
grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer,
department, agency or institution.
