(Zaffirini) Jurisprudence 4-27-95 Senate Committee Report (Unamended) BACKGROUND The Webb County district court judges meet to determine the number of prospective jurors that are necessary for each week of the year. These judges currently face an overload of work assignments. PURPOSE As proposed, H.B. 3168 authorizes the county court at law judges to assist the district court judges in Webb County at a meeting to determine the number of prospective jurors necessary for each week of the year. RULEMAKING AUTHORITY It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Section 25.2422, Government Code, by adding Subsection (k), to authorize a meeting of district judges in Webb County to determine the number of prospective jurors necessary for each week of the year to include the county court at law judges. Authorizes the judges to designate a county court at law judge to be the judge to whom the general jury panels report for jury services. SECTION 2. Emergency clause. Effective date: upon passage.
