                                   Committee Report (Substituted)
BACKGROUND

Some members of the Texas fire service feel that the Texas
Commission on Fire Protection has had problems since its creation
by the 72nd Legislature. Some of the difficulties with the
commission were addressed by the 73rd Legislature and agreed to by
all organizations representing the Texas fire service. Officials
of the organizations believe that major changes may be addressed
when the commission goes through the complete Sunset process prior
to the 75th legislative session.

PURPOSE

As proposed, C.S.S.B. 218 requires the Texas Commission on Fire
Protection (commission) to adopt, reject, or take no action on the
recommendations of the Fire Protection Personnel Advisory
Committee.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY

It is the committee's opinion that this bill does not grant any
additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or
agency.
