A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the minimum salary of a public school teacher who was
1-3 eligible for assignment to the career ladder.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Section 16.058(a), Education Code, is amended to
1-6 read as follows:
1-7 (a) Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary, a teacher
1-8 who was eligible for assignment <assigned> to a particular career
1-9 ladder level under Subchapter E, Chapter 13, on August 31, 1993, is
1-10 entitled to receive for <the 1993-1994 school year and> each school
1-11 year <thereafter, as long as the teacher is employed by the same
1-12 district,> a minimum salary equal to the teacher's base salary plus
1-13 the <teacher's> career ladder supplement paid at that career ladder
1-14 level for the 1992-1993 school year by the district that employed
1-15 the teacher during that <in the 1992-1993> school year.
1-16 SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 1995-1996
1-17 school year.
1-18 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-19 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-20 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-21 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-22 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
1-23 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
1-24 passage, and it is so enacted.
