                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the maximum number of registered voters in a county
    1-3 election precinct.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. Sections 42.006(a) and (d), Election Code, are
1-6 amended to read as follows:
1-7 (a) Except as otherwise provided by this section, a county
1-8 election precinct must contain at least 100 but not more than 3,000
    1-9 <2,000> registered voters.
1-10 (d) In a county in which a voting system has been adopted
1-11 for use in the general election for state and county officers, the
1-12 maximum number of registered voters a precinct may contain is:
   1-13 (1) 5,000 <3,000>, in a county with a population of
   1-14  250,000 or more;
   1-15 (2) 5,500 <4,000>, in a county with a population of
1-16 175,000 or more but less than 250,000; and
   1-17 (3) 6,500 <5,000>, in a county with a population of
   1-18 less than 175,000.
1-19 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1995.
1-20 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-21 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-22 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-23 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-24 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
