No. 295 74R1942 PEP-D A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to assigning a unique identification number to an inmate 1-3 confined in the institutional division of the Texas Department of 1-4 Criminal Justice. 1-5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-6 SECTION 1. Chapter 494, Government Code, is amended by 1-7 adding Section 494.015 to read as follows: 1-8 Sec. 494.015. INMATE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. The 1-9 identification number assigned to an inmate by the institutional 1-10 division on the inmate's arrival is permanently assigned to that 1-11 inmate, and the division shall use that number to identify records 1-12 relating to that inmate obtained or maintained during the term of 1-13 imprisonment in which the number is initially assigned and any 1-14 subsequent term of imprisonment served by the inmate. 1-15 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1995. 1-16 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-17 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-18 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-19 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-20 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
