1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-7 AN ACT
1-8 relating to an offense for operation of a motor vehicle on a hike
1-9 and bike trail.
1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-11 SECTION 1. Section 13, Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on
1-12 Highways (Article 6701d, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended
1-13 by adding Subsection (o) to read as follows:
1-14 (o) "Hike and bike trail" means a trail designed exclusively
1-15 for the use of pedestrians, bicycles, or both.
1-16 SECTION 2. Section 187, Uniform Act Regulating Traffic on
1-17 Highways (Article 6701d, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes), is amended
1-18 to read as follows:
1-19 Sec. 187. DRIVING UPON SIDEWALK OR HIKE AND BIKE TRAIL. (a)
1-20 No person shall drive any motor vehicle upon a sidewalk, <or>
1-21 sidewalk area, or hike and bike trail except upon a permanent or
1-22 duly authorized temporary driveway.
1-23 (b) This section does not prohibit the operation of a motor
1-24 vehicle on a hike and bike trail in connection with maintenance of
1-25 the trail.
1-26 SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 1995.
1-27 SECTION 4. The importance of this legislation and the
1-28 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-29 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-30 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-31 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
