No. 670 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House April 10, 1995; 1-3 April 11, 1995, read first time and referred to Committee on 1-4 Natural Resources; May 3, 1995, reported favorably by the following 1-5 vote: Yeas 7, Nays 0; May 3, 1995, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to permitting competitive hunting dog events on certain 1-9 state-controlled property. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 62, Parks and Wildlife 1-12 Code, is amended by adding Section 62.016 to read as follows: 1-13 Sec. 62.016. COMPETITIVE HUNTING DOG EVENTS. The department 1-14 may permit a person to hold or participate in a competitive hunting 1-15 dog event, including a field trial, in an area controlled by the 1-16 department and designated by the commission as a public hunting 1-17 area if: 1-18 (1) a participant in the event is prohibited from: 1-19 (A) using a firearm in the event; or 1-20 (B) taking the wildlife that is the object of 1-21 the event; and 1-22 (2) the event does not deter other persons from 1-23 hunting during a designated hunting season. 1-24 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-25 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-26 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-27 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-28 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-29 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-30 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-31 * * * * *
