                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to creating the offense of carrying a pistol grip shotgun.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Section 46.01, Penal Code, is amended by adding
    1-5  Subdivision (17) to read as follows:
    1-6              (17)  "Pistol grip shotgun" means a shotgun that has a
    1-7  pistol grip and that does not have a stock, folding stock, or
    1-8  readily detachable stock.
    1-9        SECTION 2.  Section 46.02(a), Penal Code, is amended to read
   1-10  as follows:
   1-11        (a)  A person commits an offense if he intentionally,
   1-12  knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his person a handgun,
   1-13  pistol grip shotgun, illegal knife, or club.
   1-14        SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 1995.
   1-15        SECTION 4.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-16  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-17  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-18  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-19  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
