No. 1544 1-2 (In the Senate - Received from the House May 1, 1995; 1-3 May 2, 1995, read first time and referred to Committee on State 1-4 Affairs; May 16, 1995, reported favorably by the following vote: 1-5 Yeas 11, Nays 0; May 16, 1995, sent to printer.) 1-6 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-7 AN ACT 1-8 relating to the designation of a portion of United States Highway 1-9 290 as the Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway. 1-10 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-11 SECTION 1. United States Highway 290 between Johnson City and 1-12 its intersection with Interstate Highway 10 between Mountain Home 1-13 and Segovia is designated as the Pearl Harbor Memorial Highway. 1-14 SECTION 2. (a) The Texas Department of Transportation shall 1-15 design and construct markers to be placed along United States 1-16 Highway 290 indicating its designation as the Pearl Harbor Memorial 1-17 Highway. 1-18 (b) The markers shall include the highway number and any 1-19 other information that the department determines is appropriate. 1-20 (c) Markers shall be erected at each end of the highway and 1-21 at intermediate sites that the department determines are 1-22 appropriate. 1-23 (d) The department is responsible for repair and replacement 1-24 of the markers and for maintenance of the grounds surrounding each 1-25 marker. 1-26 (e) The department may accept grants and donations from 1-27 individuals and other entities to assist in financing the 1-28 construction and maintenance of the markers. 1-29 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the 1-30 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 1-31 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 1-32 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 1-33 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 1-34 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 1-35 passage, and it is so enacted. 1-36 * * * * *
