A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to tuberculosis screening for certain employees of the
1-3 Texas Department of Criminal Justice and related managed care
1-4 plans.
1-5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-6 SECTION 1. Section 501.059, Government Code, as added by
1-7 Section 2, Chapter 786, Acts of the 73rd Legislature, 1993, is
1-8 redesignated as Section 501.060 and amended to read as follows:
1-9 Sec. 501.060 <501.059>. TUBERCULOSIS SCREENING. (a) The
1-10 board will establish requirements for tuberculosis screening of
1-11 department employees and volunteers in a manner similar to that
1-12 established for jail employees and volunteers as outlined in
1-13 Subchapter B, Chapter 89, Health and Safety Code.
1-14 (b) The institutional division shall provide tuberculosis
1-15 screening for a person if:
1-16 (1) the person is an employee of:
1-17 (A) the institutional division;
1-18 (B) the correctional managed care plan operated
1-19 by The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; or
1-20 (C) the Texas Tech University Health Science
1-21 Center Correctional Managed Care Plan; and
1-22 (2) the person requests the screening.
1-23 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the
1-24 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-1 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-2 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-3 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-4 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-5 passage, and it is so enacted.
