A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the composition of certain state representative
1-3 districts.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-5 SECTION 1. (a) This section applies to the state
1-6 representative districts established by Chapter 2, Acts of the 72nd
1-7 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, 1992.
1-8 (b) Block 405A of Harris County tract 0539 is transferred
1-9 from District 126 to District 139.
1-10 (c) Block 213 of Lubbock County tract 0103.01 is transferred
1-11 from District 83 to District 84.
1-12 (d) Block 202 of McLennan County tract 0021 is transferred
1-13 from District 57 to District 56.
1-14 (e) In this section, "block" and "tract" have the meanings
1-15 assigned by Section 1, Article III, Chapter 2, Acts of the 72nd
1-16 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, 1992.
1-17 SECTION 2. (a) The changes made by this Act apply to the
1-18 election of the members of the Texas House of Representatives
1-19 beginning with the general election in 1996 for members of the 75th
1-20 Legislature.
1-21 (b) The changes made by this Act do not affect the
1-22 membership or districts of the Texas House of Representatives of
1-23 the 74th Legislature. If a vacancy occurs in the office of a
1-24 member of the Texas House of Representatives of the 74th
2-1 Legislature and a special election is held to fill the vacancy, the
2-2 election shall be held in the district as it existed when the
2-3 vacating member was elected.
2-4 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
2-5 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
2-6 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
2-7 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
2-8 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
2-9 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
2-10 passage, and it is so enacted.
