                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to assignment pay for police officers in certain
    1-3  municipalities.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Section 143.114(b), Local Government Code, is
    1-6  amended to read as follows:
    1-7        (b)  In a municipality with a population of 1.2 million or
    1-8  more, the municipality's governing body may authorize assignment
    1-9  pay for:
   1-10              (1)  helicopter personnel;
   1-11              (2)  <,> bomb squad personnel;
   1-12              (3)  <,> special weapons and tactics personnel;
   1-13              (4)  <,> motorcycle personnel;
   1-14              (5)  <, and> dive team personnel; and
   1-15              (6)  any classified police officer who has received at
   1-16  least 300 hours of continuous training approved by the Commission
   1-17  on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education for a specified
   1-18  area to which the officer is assigned.
   1-19        (c)  The assignment pay is in an amount and is payable under
   1-20  conditions set by ordinance and is in addition to the regular pay
   1-21  received by members of the police department.  The head of the
   1-22  police department is not eligible for the assignment pay authorized
   1-23  by this section.
   1-24        SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
    2-1  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
    2-2  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
    2-3  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
    2-4  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
    2-5  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
    2-6  passage, and it is so enacted.
