                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to the expulsion of students from school.
1-3 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1-4 SECTION 1. Chapter 21, Education Code, Subchapter I, Section
1-5 21.3011(d)(1) is amended to read as follows:
1-6 (1) The expulsion may not extend beyond the end of the
1-7 school year unless the conduct directly leading to the expulsion
    1-8 occurred during the <final six-week reporting period> second
1-9 semester of the school year, in which case the expulsion may extend
1-10 beyond the end of the current school year but not beyond the end of
1-11 the first semester of the next school year.
1-12 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the
1-13 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-14 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-15 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-16 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
