                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1 AN ACT
1-2 relating to alternative methods of taking a driver's license
    1-3 examination.
1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5 SECTION 1. Section 10, Chapter 173, Acts of the 47th
    1-6 Legislature, Regular Session, 1941 (Article 6687b, Vernon's Texas
1-7 Civil Statutes), is amended by adding Subsection (e) to read as
    1-8 follows:
1-9 (e) Each applicant shall be given the option of taking the
1-10 traffic law and highway sign part of the examination orally or in
1-11 writing in addition to or instead of by a mechanical, electronic,
1-12 or other testing method. If the applicant takes that part of the
1-13 examination orally or in writing in addition to another testing
1-14 method, the applicant is considered to have passed that part of the
1-15 examination if the applicant passes either version. The department
1-16 shall inform each person taking the examination of the person's
   1-17 rights under this subsection.
1-18 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 1995.
1-19 SECTION 3. The importance of this legislation and the
1-20 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
1-21 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
1-22 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
1-23 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
