                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the closure or restricted use of bridges under the
    1-3  jurisdiction of a municipality or county.
    1-4        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-5        SECTION 1.  Chapter 1, Title 116, Revised Statutes, is
    1-6  amended by adding Article 6674o-2 to read as follows:
    1-7        Art. 6673o-2.  The governing body of a municipalilty or
    1-8  county which is notified by the Texas Department of Transportation
    1-9  that a bridge on any highway or road under the jurisdiction of the
   1-10  municipality or county does not satisfy the standards of 23 United
   1-11  States Code Sections 650.301 et seq., as determined by a Department
   1-12  inspection and rating pursuant to such law, shall post such notices
   1-13  on the highway or road as may be necessary to forbid or otherwise
   1-14  restrict use of the bridge consistent with the rating and to enable
   1-15  drivers to make detours to avoid the closed or restricted bridge.
   1-16        SECTION 2.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-17  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-18  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-19  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-20  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended,
   1-21  and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its
   1-22  passage, and it is so enacted.
