                                 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
    1-1                                AN ACT
    1-2  relating to the inspection of dental x-ray equipment.
    1-3        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    1-4        SECTION 1.  Chapter 9, Title 71, Revised Statutes is amended
    1-5  by adding Article 4551o to read as follows:
    1-6        Art. 4551o.  A dentist may authorize a qualified person to
    1-7  perform beam calibration and characterization, quality assurance,
    1-8  instrument specification, acceptance testing, shielding design, or
    1-9  protection analysis on radiation-emitting equipment or
   1-10  radiopharmaceuticals for procedures involved with the diagnosis or
   1-11  treatment of disease or other dental conditions in humans.  The
   1-12  authorization of such acts by a dentist and the performance of same
   1-13  by a qualified person shall not constitute the practice of medical
   1-14  physics as defined and regulated by Article 4512n, Revised
   1-15  Statutes.
   1-16        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect on September 1, 1995.
   1-17        SECTION 3.  The importance of this legislation and the
   1-18  crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an
   1-19  emergency and an imperative public necessity that the
   1-20  constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several
   1-21  days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended.
