No. 3167 Luna, Raymond, Rangel A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1-1 AN ACT 1-2 relating to the establishment and operation of a health science 1-3 center as part of The Texas A&M University Health Science Center. 1-4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: 1-5 SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 86, Education Code, is 1-6 amended by adding Section 86.24 to read as follows: 1-7 Sec. 86.24. TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY HEALTH SCIENCE CENTER AT 1-8 CORPUS CHRISTI. (a) The board of regents may establish a health 1-9 science center serving Nueces County and the surrounding counties 1-10 to be operated as part of The Texas A&M University Health Science 1-11 Center. The health science center may consist of facilities 1-12 located throughout the region. The board may execute and carry out 1-13 affiliation or coordination agreements with any other entity or 1-14 institution, including Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi, Texas 1-15 A&M University--Kingsville, Del Mar College, and Bee County 1-16 College, to establish or to participate in the establishment or 1-17 operation of the health science center. 1-18 (b) The health science center may be used to provide 1-19 undergraduate clinical education, graduate education, including 1-20 residency training programs, or other levels of medical and health 1-21 education in those counties. 1-22 SECTION 2. The importance of this legislation and the 1-23 crowded condition of the calendars in both houses create an 2-1 emergency and an imperative public necessity that the 2-2 constitutional rule requiring bills to be read on three several 2-3 days in each house be suspended, and this rule is hereby suspended, 2-4 and that this Act take effect and be in force from and after its 2-5 passage, and it is so enacted.
