                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Dorothy Sanders was an extraordinary woman who
    1-2  dedicated nearly four decades of her life to serving the people of
    1-3  Texas, and her passing on December 11, 1993, was a great loss to
    1-4  her many friends in the legislative community; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, During an impressive career that spanned 37 years,
    1-6  Ms. Sanders brought considerable expertise to her work as a
    1-7  legislative assistant, instilling in legislators and constituents
    1-8  alike a deep sense of appreciation for our state's democratic
    1-9  process; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, This exemplary public servant joined the Capitol
   1-11  staff in 1955, when she accepted a position in the office of the
   1-12  Honorable Scott McDonald; over the course of the next 19
   1-13  legislative sessions she earned the respect and admiration of all
   1-14  those who had the pleasure of working with her, including the
   1-15  Honorable Robert Saunders, in whose employ she served for more than
   1-16  a decade; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Affectionately called "Mom" by her many friends and
   1-18  coworkers at the Capitol, Ms. Sanders was much loved for the warmth
   1-19  and generosity she displayed in every aspect of her life; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Ms. Sanders' commitment and compassion are a shining
   1-21  example to all those who dedicate themselves to serving the people
   1-22  of Texas, and her legacy is indeed worthy of special recognition
   1-23  and remembrance; now, therefore, be it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-25  hereby authorize the State Preservation Board to plant a tree on
   1-26  the Capitol grounds in memory of Dorothy Sanders; and, be it
   1-27  further
   1-28        RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official
   1-29  copy of this resolution to the State Preservation Board.
