                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, From April 20 to 24, 1995, the community of Wills
    1-2  Point will celebrate its second annual Bluebird Festival; and
    1-3        WHEREAS, The festival is sponsored by the Wills Point
    1-4  Wilderness Society to call attention to the area's vast population
    1-5  of bluebirds; this fun-filled event will feature guided bus tours
    1-6  of the community's 10 bluebird trails and also offer wildlife
    1-7  nature shows; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Promising a wide variety of entertainment for the
    1-9  whole family, the festival will offer visitors an opportunity to
   1-10  enjoy a live raptor exhibit, an exotic bird show, a fine art show,
   1-11  pony rides, a petting zoo, arts and crafts shows, games, and more;
   1-12  and
   1-13        WHEREAS, More than 4,000 visitors attended last year's event,
   1-14  and larger crowds are expected to attend this year's festival in
   1-15  picturesque Van Zandt County in Northeast Texas; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The Wills Point Wilderness Society, working with the
   1-17  national Bluebird Recovery Program, has coordinated outstanding
   1-18  efforts to preserve the eastern bluebird, whose existence once was
   1-19  threatened; its efforts to preserve the bluebird's local habitat
   1-20  led to the construction and monitoring of 179 birdhouses, which is
   1-21  the largest number of bluebird houses monitored by a single group
   1-22  in the state; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, These heroic efforts were deemed successful when the
   1-24  National Audubon Society recently determined that the community has
    2-1  hosted more bluebirds than any other area in Texas for the 11th
    2-2  year in a row; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The efforts of Wills Point citizens to preserve the
    2-4  bluebird population in Northeast Texas is truly commendable, and
    2-5  its second annual Bluebird Festival is a splendid addition to our
    2-6  state's roster of recreational opportunities; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-8  hereby commend the Bluebird Festival in Wills Point and also
    2-9  designate the community to be the Bluebird Capital of Texas; and,
   2-10  be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-12  prepared for the citizens of Wills Point as an expression of high
   2-13  regard from the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
