                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival is the premiere
    1-2  event of its kind in the state; and
    1-3        WHEREAS, This gala weekend celebration is held in historic
    1-4  Montgomery County Square and is sponsored by the Friends of Conroe,
    1-5  Inc., a nonprofit group organized to promote the construction of a
    1-6  civic center and renovation of Conroe's downtown district; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Among the events and attractions at this spectacular
    1-8  festival are a parade, dancing, a carnival, arts and crafts
    1-9  exhibits, and a special children's area featuring rides,
   1-10  performers, and a petting zoo; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Hearty appetites are catered to with such Cajun
   1-12  specialties as boudin, crawfish etouffee, gumbo, andouille sausage,
   1-13  red beans and rice, gator balls, and catfish, and other
   1-14  mouth-watering offerings include such traditional fare as barbecue,
   1-15  hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken-on-a-stick; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, A feast for the ears as well as the palate, the
   1-17  festival features performers with a variety of toe-tapping musical
   1-18  styles, including rock, zydeco, Cajun, country and western, rhythm
   1-19  and blues, and Tejano; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Creating an event that provides thousands of
   1-21  attendees with a Texas-sized helping of fun and entertainment is an
   1-22  accomplishment truly worthy of special praise and recognition; now,
   1-23  therefore, be it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the organizers and participants whose tireless
    2-1  efforts have made the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival a truly unique
    2-2  and successful event be honored for their exemplary achievements in
    2-3  this regard; and, be it further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-5  hereby designate the Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival as the official
    2-6  Cajun catfish festival of the State of Texas.
