CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
1-1 WHEREAS, January 23, 1995, is a day of special significance
1-2 in the lives of Congressman and Mrs. Gene Green for on this day
1-3 they will celebrate the momentous occasion of their 25th wedding
1-4 anniversary; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Congressman and Mrs. Green knew each other from an
1-6 early age, both having attended Woodland Christian Church since
1-7 childhood; active in the youth group of their church, they began
1-8 dating in the early years of high school and continued to nurture
1-9 their relationship for five years before their marriage on January
1-10 23, 1970, in the church that first brought them together; and
1-11 WHEREAS, They attended the University of Houston together,
1-12 with Mrs. Green pursuing a career in the teaching profession
1-13 following her graduation in 1969 and Congressman Green continuing
1-14 his education after receiving his bachelor's degree to obtain his
1-15 law degree in 1977; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Thanks in part to the wise counsel of his dedicated
1-17 campaign manager, Mrs. Green, Congressman Green was elected to the
1-18 Texas House of Representatives, where he served with distinction
1-19 from 1973 to 1985 before being elected to the office of state
1-20 senator; and
1-21 WHEREAS, Since 1993, this fine gentleman has distinguished
1-22 himself as a member of the United States Congress, in which
1-23 capacity he has become a strong voice for the citizens of Texas;
1-24 and
2-1 WHEREAS, A cornerstone of the Greens' 25-year marriage has
2-2 been their ability to work together as a team in every aspect of
2-3 their life, whether supporting each other in their chosen careers
2-4 or parenting their two children, Angela and Christopher, in whom
2-5 they take great pride; Angela is a sophomore at The University of
2-6 Texas at Austin this year while Christopher is in his first year at
2-7 Texas A&M University at Galveston; and
2-8 WHEREAS, For 25 years, Gene and Helen Green have shared a
2-9 strong and lasting marriage filled with many happy times and
2-10 cherished family memories; built on a solid foundation of mutual
2-11 love, trust, and support, their life together has indeed been a
2-12 source of joy and inspiration for the many friends and relatives of
2-13 this fortunate couple; now, therefore, be it
2-14 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
2-15 hereby congratulate Congressman and Mrs. Gene Green on the joyous
2-16 occasion of their silver wedding anniversary and extend sincere
2-17 best wishes to them for continued happiness in the years to come;
2-18 and, be it further
2-19 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-20 prepared for Congressman and Mrs. Green as an expression of high
2-21 regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
