                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The State of Texas traditionally has recognized a
    1-2  variety of official state symbols as tangible representations of
    1-3  the proud spirit and heritage of our state; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The bluebonnet, the pecan tree, and the mockingbird
    1-5  are examples of the natural specimens that serve to exemplify the
    1-6  great diversity of the Texas landscape, while the state dish,
    1-7  chili, fittingly represents another aspect of our shared culture as
    1-8  Texans; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, In 1921 Charles J. Fertitta founded the Texas Coffee
   1-10  Company in Beaumont, and although the limited space at his
   1-11  facilities allowed him to roast only 50 pounds of coffee at a time,
   1-12  he labored tirelessly to create a product that met or exceeded the
   1-13  expectations of even the most demanding coffee drinker; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Texas' only family-owned coffee manufacturing
   1-15  company, Texas Coffee Company today competes in the national market
   1-16  by virtue of its product's unsurpassed combination of flavor,
   1-17  aroma, and strength; and
   1-18        WHEREAS,  Seaport Coffee is the flagship blend of the Texas
   1-19  Coffee Company and is made from the renowned Rios bean, which is
   1-20  grown in the fertile valleys of Brazil and gives the blend its
   1-21  richly distinctive flavor; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The unique appeal of Seaport Coffee has attracted
   1-23  the attention of aficionados nationwide, and to meet the burgeoning
   1-24  demand Seaport Coffee has been made available in all 50 states; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Always in the vanguard of technological advancement,
    2-2  the Texas Coffee Company in 1968 began packaging its product in
    2-3  vacuum-packed foil bags, establishing a process that now is the
    2-4  industry standard; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, As distinctive as the proud state where it
    2-6  originates, Seaport Coffee will serve as a fitting symbol of the
    2-7  industrious and innovative spirit with which Texans are justly
    2-8  identified; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   2-10  hereby designate Seaport Coffee as the official State Coffee of
   2-11  Texas.
