                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature is proud to honor Dr. Stephen
    1-2  Charles Nash of Dallas for his 24 years of faithful service as a
    1-3  Christian minister and for his recent election as president of the
    1-4  Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Dr. Nash is a highly regarded religious leader whose
    1-6  many achievements have contributed greatly to the betterment of
    1-7  this state, and his elevation to this prestigious position is
    1-8  indicative of the success he has enjoyed throughout his ministry
    1-9  and of the esteem in which he is held by his colleagues; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, A native of Arizona, he was graduated from
   1-11  Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, with a
   1-12  bachelor of arts degree in religion and philosophy and went on to
   1-13  earn master of arts degrees in biblical studies and religious
   1-14  education; he later was awarded doctoral degrees in urban
   1-15  ministries and Christian education, and he has contributed his
   1-16  wealth of expertise as a theologian as a certified instructor with
   1-17  the Southern Baptist Seminary Extension; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Upon being ordained, Dr. Nash began his ministry
   1-19  offering spiritual guidance to several churches across the state
   1-20  before settling in Dallas, where he currently serves the
   1-21  congregation of the Mt.  Tabor Baptist Church; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, He has gone on to affect countless other Christians
   1-23  through his inspirational gospel music album "Now I'm Saved," and
   1-24  he currently is working on a follow-up gospel recording; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, An accomplished and eloquent theologian, he is the
    2-2  author of several important works, including A Stewardship Primer,
    2-3  which is a recommended text of the National Baptist Convention USA,
    2-4  Inc., Ebony on the Scene, and The Black Man's Place in The Son, and
    2-5  his latest book, The High Call of Caring, will be available soon;
    2-6  and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Dr. Nash also is widely respected for his
    2-8  outstanding administrative abilities and has capably served the
    2-9  church in a variety of leadership positions over the years, most
   2-10  recently as fourth vice president for regional work for the Baptist
   2-11  Missions and Education State Convention; and
   2-12        WHEREAS, In recognition of the vast contributions he has made
   2-13  to his faith, he was nominated for the Minister of the Year Award
   2-14  for the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex by gospel radio station KGGR and
   2-15  for the Man of the Year Award, which is sponsored by the Delta
   2-16  Sigma Sorority of Lubbock; he was honored with the George Woods'
   2-17  Civil Rights Award from the Lubbock chapter of the National
   2-18  Association for the Advancement of Colored People and has received
   2-19  numerous other prestigious commendations in the course of his
   2-20  ministry; and
   2-21        WHEREAS, A tireless force in the Dallas community, Dr. Nash
   2-22  continually has placed the spiritual needs of his congregation
   2-23  above all else, offering each church member the benefit of his
   2-24  wisdom, strength, and religious guidance; he has provided comfort
   2-25  and spiritual support to countless individuals and is indeed worthy
   2-26  of our highest praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-27        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    3-1  hereby commend Dr. Stephen Charles Nash for his outstanding service
    3-2  to the church and to the people of Texas and congratulate him on
    3-3  his recent election as president of the Interdenominational
    3-4  Ministerial Alliance; and, be it further
    3-5        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-6  prepared for Dr.  Nash as an expression of high regard by the Texas
    3-7  House of Representatives and Senate.
