                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Barbara Jordan, whose eloquence and oratory is
    1-2  unmatched among contemporary American political figures, has
    1-3  compiled a distinguished career as an attorney, member of the Texas
    1-4  Senate, member of the United States Congress, and professor at the
    1-5  Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at The University of
    1-6  Texas at Austin; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Senate Resolution 286, 63rd Legislature, Regular
    1-8  Session, 1973, provided for the commissioning of an artist to paint
    1-9  a portrait of Ms. Jordan to be displayed in the Capitol among the
   1-10  portraits of other great Texans; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The resultant portrait, for many years a prominent
   1-12  feature of the senate chamber, has been on loan to the Capitol
   1-13  Visitor Center in the old General Land Office building since the
   1-14  remodeling and reopening of the Capitol; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature deems it compelling to secure
   1-16  for the duration of that loan a comparable likeness of Ms. Jordan
   1-17  for temporary display in the Capitol; now, therefore, be it
   1-18        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
   1-19  hereby request the State Preservation Board to provide for a
   1-20  replacement portrait of Barbara Jordan to be displayed in the
   1-21  Capitol until the original is returned; and, be it further
   1-22        RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward an official
   1-23  copy of this resolution to the executive director of the State
   1-24  Preservation Board.
