                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session is a
    1-2  laudable project of the National Hispanic Institute that offers
    1-3  young Texans an opportunity to experience firsthand the operations
    1-4  of representative government; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The program promotes dedication to excellence in
    1-6  personal development, active interest in community service,
    1-7  positive understanding of Hispanic contributions to the American
    1-8  quality of life, commitment to the highest standards of education,
    1-9  and participation in the community through conscientious,
   1-10  responsible and articulate leadership; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Student members of the National Hispanic Institute
   1-12  are selected on the basis of academic achievement and interest in
   1-13  pursuing postsecondary studies and are ranked among the top 15
   1-14  percent of their high school classes; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Since 1982, the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative
   1-16  Session has served more than 6,000 students, 98 percent of whom
   1-17  have gained admission to the nation's best colleges and
   1-18  universities; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The National Hispanic Institute has requested use of
   1-20  the house and senate chambers on Wednesday through Friday, July
   1-21  26-28, 1995, to conduct its mock youth legislative session; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The Texas Legislature heartily endorses the goals of
   1-23  the Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Session and applauds the
   1-24  National Hispanic Institute for sponsoring this valuable program;
    2-1  now, therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-3  hereby grant permission to the National Hispanic Institute, in
    2-4  accordance with the rules of the house and senate and the policies
    2-5  of their respective committees on administration, to use the house
    2-6  and senate chambers on July 26-28, 1995, for the purpose of
    2-7  conducting the 13th annual Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative
    2-8  Session, provided that the house of representatives and senate are
    2-9  not in session.
