                                 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Boys State is a respected educational program
    1-2  sponsored by the American Legion that provides participants the
    1-3  opportunity to experience firsthand the operation of our
    1-4  representative form of government; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Each year, the young members of Boys State convene
    1-6  in Austin, where they broaden their understanding of how public
    1-7  policy is formulated by taking part in a simulated legislative
    1-8  session; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, In the process, these young Texans develop and
   1-10  practice skills in organization, management, persuasive speaking,
   1-11  and interpersonal communication that will enable them to become
   1-12  effective civic leaders of tomorrow; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The American Legion has requested the use of the
   1-14  house and senate chambers on Friday, June 9, 1995, for the purpose
   1-15  of convening its annual session; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas heartily
   1-17  endorses the goals and ideals of the Boys State legislative session
   1-18  and commends the American Legion for sponsoring this valuable
   1-19  program; now, therefore, be it
   1-20        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives and Senate of the
   1-21  74th Texas Legislature hereby grant the American Legion permission
   1-22  to use the house and senate chambers, provided that the house and
   1-23  senate are not in session and subject to the rules and policies of
   1-24  the respective committees on administration, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    2-1  on June 9, 1995, for the purpose of conducting its Boys State
    2-2  legislative session.
