No. 107 74R6870 MPC-D HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, Nestled in the gently rolling hills of northwest 1-2 Milam County, Sugarloaf Mountain is a well-known natural and 1-3 historical landmark; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The adjacent Little River is a significant natural 1-5 and recreational resource, enjoyed by many citizens in the 1-6 surrounding area for its swimming, fishing, and other water 1-7 activities; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Recognized as a venerated and sacred site to the 1-9 Tonkawa Indians, Sugarloaf Mountain is an important link to the 1-10 history and heritage of Texas; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Offering miles of scenic vistas and acres of 1-12 tranquil settings, Sugarloaf Mountain has for generations been a 1-13 unique recreational attraction for area residents; now, therefore, 1-14 be it 1-15 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas 1-16 hereby direct the Parks and Wildlife Department to undertake a 1-17 study of the alternatives for preserving Sugarloaf Mountain, 1-18 including but not limited to establishing a state park at the site, 1-19 and to report its finding to the Texas Legislature not later than 1-20 August 31, 1996; and, be it further 1-21 RESOLVED, That the department consult with county and local 1-22 officials, other state agencies, and private conservation groups to 1-23 explore all alternatives for protection of the significant features 1-24 associated with Sugarloaf Mountain; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That the secretary of state forward official copies 2-2 of this resolution to the members of the Parks and Wildlife 2-3 Commission and to the executive director of the Parks and Wildlife 2-4 Department. 2-5 COMMITTEE AMENDMENT NO. 1 2-6 Amend H.C.R. 107 as follows: 2-7 (1) On page 1, line 16, between "direct" and "the", insert 2-8 "that". 2-9 (2) On page 1, line 16, strike "to" and substitute "may". 2-10 Turner of Coleman
