                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, Love the Children Day is a worthy project that seeks
    1-2  to devote one day each year to helping every child within the
    1-3  borders of our state to feel loved and cared for; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, The concept was initiated by a mother who, inspired
    1-5  by the abiding love she feels for her daughter, wished that every
    1-6  child could be cared for so deeply; to this end, she began a
    1-7  campaign to set aside a special day on which we, as citizens who
    1-8  care about the future of our younger generation, could join
    1-9  together to demonstrate to all children that they are important and
   1-10  that people are interested in their feelings, thoughts, and needs;
   1-11  and
   1-12        WHEREAS, On this day, citizens are encouraged to express
   1-13  their interest in children by engaging them in special activities
   1-14  and by showing an interest in their health and welfare, whether it
   1-15  be ensuring that their immunizations are up-to-date, discussing
   1-16  fire safety information with them, or making sure they buckle up
   1-17  each time they go out in the car; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, If at-risk children are made to feel better about
   1-19  themselves for one day, perhaps it will then lead to two, and could
   1-20  soon be the beginning of a whole new future for some who sadly may
   1-21  have never felt cared for before; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, In these days when child abuse and neglect and the
   1-23  growing juvenile crime rate are increasingly in the news, it is
   1-24  time for all responsible adults to respond to the challenges at
    2-1  hand and make a difference in the lives of those who so richly
    2-2  deserve our attention, our children; now, therefore, be it
    2-3        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    2-4  hereby recognize March 29 of this year and each succeeding year as
    2-5  Love the Children Day in Texas and encourage all Texans to observe
    2-6  this event by sharing their time with a child.
