                              HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
    1-1        WHEREAS, The wedding anniversary of two outstanding Texans
    1-2  who have shared 50 happy and fulfilling years of marriage is truly
    1-3  a momentous event worthy of special recognition; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, On May 18, 1995, John and Martha Holt of Pampa will
    1-5  commemorate one such special event in their lives when they
    1-6  celebrate their golden wedding anniversary; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Mr. Holt and the former Martha M. Brummett first met
    1-8  in Pampa during the winter of 1942, when they shared the same
    1-9  songbook at an evening church service; their courtship lasted for
   1-10  two years, enduring even though Mr. Holt was a member of the U.S.
   1-11  Army Air Force and was transferred from Pampa to Kansas and later
   1-12  to San Marcos; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Engaged in July of 1944, they were married almost
   1-14  one year later during a three-day military leave in San Marcos; the
   1-15  happy couple exchanged their wedding vows on May 18, 1945, at an
   1-16  evening ceremony held at the home of the pastor of the First
   1-17  Baptist Church; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, The Holts moved to Pampa shortly after Mr. Holt's
   1-19  return to civilian life on February 14, 1946, and their marriage
   1-20  was soon blessed with the birth of two lovely daughters, Nancy Kay
   1-21  and Barbara Ann, who today enjoy great personal and professional
   1-22  success, much to the delight of their parents; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, In 1946, Mr. Holt joined the General Atlas Carbon
   1-24  Company, a Pampa business that later became known as Cabot Carbon
    2-1  Black; he remained a respected employee of the company for nearly
    2-2  four decades and was selected for the challenging task of training
    2-3  plant operators in Iran just before the fall of the shah; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Mrs. Holt created a warm and loving home for her
    2-5  family and was known throughout the community as an advocate for
    2-6  public education; in addition to her work as president of the local
    2-7  parent-teacher association, she contributed her time and boundless
    2-8  energy to serve as a Girl Scout troop leader, as president of the
    2-9  Girl Scout council, and as noble grand of the Pampa Rebekah Lodge;
   2-10  and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Mr. Holt also has dedicated himself to serving his
   2-12  community, helping to plan and execute many Girl Scout trips and
   2-13  projects with his wife and serving as noble grand of the Pampa Odd
   2-14  Fellow Lodge; the couple are exemplary members of the First Baptist
   2-15  Church and have taken active roles in the operation of Brummett's
   2-16  Upholstery, a business owned by Mrs. Holt's family; and
   2-17        WHEREAS, The Holt family has grown over the years to include
   2-18  a son-in-law, Phil Cates, who served with distinction as a member
   2-19  of the Texas House of Representatives from 1971 to 1979, and two
   2-20  beloved grandchildren, Andy and John David; and
   2-21        WHEREAS, Since exchanging their vows half a century ago,
   2-22  Mr. and Mrs. Holt have enjoyed an enduring relationship that has
   2-23  grown in love and mutual respect with each passing year, and this
   2-24  devoted couple remains a source of delight and inspiration to the
   2-25  family and friends with whom they have shared the richness of their
   2-26  life together; and
   2-27        WHEREAS, Still looking forward to each day with the same
    3-1  enthusiasm and sense of adventure that first sparked their romance,
    3-2  Mr. and Mrs. Holt are deservedly enjoying the benefits of their
    3-3  50-year union with great joy and happiness, and they are indeed
    3-4  worthy of the highest praise and recognition as they celebrate this
    3-5  significant milestone in their marriage; now, therefore, be it
    3-6        RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas
    3-7  hereby congratulate John and Martha Holt on the joyous occasion of
    3-8  their golden wedding anniversary and extend warmest best wishes for
    3-9  many more years of continued happiness; and, be it further
   3-10        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   3-11  prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Holt as an expression of high regard by
   3-12  the Texas Legislature.
