H.C.R. No. 151 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 1-1 WHEREAS, For 95 years the Strickland Funeral Home has 1-2 provided both solace and the highest level of professional service 1-3 to the citizens of Somerville; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The oldest funeral home in Burleson County, the 1-5 enterprise was founded by Jebb Lee Woods, who came to Somerville in 1-6 1900 and began his career as an undertaker; pursuing a calling he 1-7 strongly felt was both sacred and significant, he established in 1-8 Somerville a business that has remained in his family for four 1-9 generations; and 1-10 WHEREAS, When Jebb Woods died in 1932, ownership of the 1-11 business passed to his wife, Mary Jane Woods, but the enterprise 1-12 was primarily operated by her daughter, Mary Ruth Woods Strickland, 1-13 and son-in-law, Nello Strickland, whose tireless efforts helped the 1-14 business meet the growing needs of the community; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Throughout the succeeding years, the family has 1-16 always endeavored to ease the burden of grief for their customers 1-17 during the difficult and demanding period surrounding the loss of a 1-18 loved one; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The sympathetic warmth and extraordinary 1-20 professional efforts provided to families by the staff of the 1-21 Strickland Funeral Home during its 95 years of outstanding service 1-22 have been a comfort to the Somerville community and are indeed 1-23 worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the 74th Legislature of the State of Texas 2-1 hereby commend the Strickland Funeral Home for providing the 2-2 highest possible level of service to its community during its 95 2-3 years of operation and extend best wishes for continued success in 2-4 the future; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for owners of the Strickland Funeral Home as an expression 2-7 of high regard by the Legislature of the State of Texas.
